nearly 15-hundred delegates are up for grabs today in the race for the white house. super tuesday represents just more than 20% of the all delegates that will be considered for the nominations. taking a look at the delegate assignments so far according to bloomberg politics... on the republican side, donald trump has 81 delegates. ted cruz and marco rubio are tied with 17. ben carson and john kasich have single digit delegates assigned. for the democrats hillary clinton leads with 448 and 358 of those are super delegates. while bernie sanders has 80 with

clinton is riding a wave of support after her big finish in south carolina. in the most recent polls, clinton is expected to finish even stronger after today. she shifted her focus to the g-o-p competitors but sanders is not giving up. to iowa. u-s marshals arrested 28- year-old cordarryl smith in ottawa, illinois yesterday. authorities took him into custody after they say he tried to get away. police were searching for smith after they say he shot a 38 year old man twice back in september. it happened outside of a home at 15-32 4th avenue southeast. the man survived his injuries. a waterloo man convicted of killing a man last year will get a new trial. 25-year-old perquondis holmes faces a first degree murder charge for the death in 20-13. his attorneys say the judge shouldn't have allowed prosecutors to use some facebook photos during the trial. the pictures showed him and another man using gang signs. police say holmes shot at another car that had pulled into a parking lot behind an apartment building. the bullets killed 18 year old daequan campbell. a judge has not set a date for holmes' new trial. the university of iowa's interim public safety director is in trouble for not cooperating with officers during a drunken

incident involving his stepson. court records show dave visin's stepson, sean carter, was drunk when his truck hit two cars outside of a bar on june 25th. visin picked up carter, drove away and refused to pull over when police tried to stop them. visin claims he didn't know anything about carter's crash. he dropped carter off at a gas station and left before police got there. in a tv-9 follow-up this morning.. the city of ames is teaming up with iowa state to hire a consulting firm to look at safety issues along lincoln way. that's the same street where a cyride bus hit and killed 18 year old urbana native emmalee jacobs just over two months ago. ames city engineers say there is no correlation between the december hit and run and the safety study. they just want to make a busy road safer for everyone especially with continued growth in student population. "i think before we had a good balance between vehicles and cars but now when you have a heavy increase in pedestrian 1:28 we want to get ahead of it before we have safety concerns 3. "

part of the city's long- are still working to finalize a consulting firms. these two dishes are just a couple that will be featured throughout cedar rapids this week. these are beef short ribs, with a soy caramel zeppelins. in our area. today kicks off cedar rapids restaurant week. and this year's theme is the hungry games. it's a way to recognize the best restaurants cedar rapids has to offer. kcrg-tv nine's brea love join us from the newsroom. brea, this week is also a social media competition? it is, foodies can visit the participating restaurants and vote for them online. each one is offering a 10 dollar lunch and 25 dollar dinner specials. the top four winners will participate in the dinner of champions next week. there, they will compete to be crowned the best restaurant in cedar rapids each one of the 29 participating will display their special dishes, in effort to win over costumers. it is chance for restaurants to show off their

under fire from his own party. one g-o-p representativ e from nebraska says he hopes the election doesn't come down to trump and hillary clinton. "i am not voting for hillary clinton. given what we know about donald trump, i can't vote for him either. i took an oath to protect, defend the constitution. if those are the two major party nominees, and i hope they're not, i have to look for a third party option. " clinton focused her efforts on attacking the g-o-p and not sanders, who is still confident he can win the nomination. while iowa's caucuses were exactly one month ago, some eastern iowans are heading to the polls today for local votes. voters in ainsworth will choose a new city council member today. the mayor resigned in january -- which lead to the appointment of a city council member to that position. the polls are open from noon to 8 pm today at the ainsworth fire station. while voters in kalona will vote on a bond referendum for a new community center. city leaders say the current building is run down and needs to be renovated.

taxpayer with a home assessed at $100,000 dollars, an extra $92.34 per year. a new vendor is making its home at newbo city market in cedar rapids this spring. matthew 25 will set up shop in the permanent vendor section of the market. the non-profit is already preparing for the growing season by starting plants for the urban farm on the city's northwest side. it'll sell that produce at the newbo space. they sell it for half price to income-eligible families and full price to others. "21:55:16 we hope it will increase the number of families we serve. that more people will be able to get access and hopefully long term maybe this will lead to us getting more land to grow more food for more people." the organization also wants this to become an educational opportunity. "21:54:00 at the urban farm we have african immigrants that are growing their own produce who eventually want to start their own business, so this will be a place where they can sell some of their produce and really learn

the organization says it'll be inside the city market each thursday from 4 until 8 from may through november. newbo says it hopes the group will continue serving produce after that as well. it's restaurant week in cedar rapids! it kicks off during lunch today, with the theme " the hungry games" the event is a way to recognize the best restaurants this area has to offer. kcrg-tv9's brea love join us at the desk this morning. brea, the week involves a social media competition? yes, it's the competition, before the competition. foodies can dine at more than two dozen participating restaurants. they will be served special menu items, at special prices, and then vote for their favorites. and the top four, get to compete to see who is the best in cedar rapids. preparations are underway, and plates are being perfected. while this may be the third year for restaurant week, it's zepplin's first. and these cooks, have a game plan. "trying to keep things fun, show a little bit of the talent that the kitchen staff has in the kitchen, and be able to give our regular costumers something new." it's using dishes like sticky

glazed with soy caramel to come out on top. something you wouldn't see on the normal menu. "people always like to see that little extra step and when you put a lot of different flavors onto a plate, as long as they combine to make one wonderful plate." zepplin's and 28 other participating restaurants hope those wonderful plates send them to the top chef style, dinner of champions competition on march 10th. there the best restaurant in cedar rapids will be crowned. about competition. officials say it's a call to support local. "in the restaurant business the margins are very small, they don't have huge ad budgets, huge marketing budgets, so to be able to do things this engaging, this fun, that brings in the social element, that brings in the competition element, the restaurants are really excited about it." oathout says restaurant week is something very important for local food. kcrg-tv9 student of the month. our first student is jimena fierro perez. she's a 13 year old from west liberty middle school. jimena loves computer science and helped start a technology club for girls in 6th - 8th grade. she's involved in music and athletics and is working hard in school for the opportunity to go to college. high school, grace shemanski. the 18 year old is a regular on the honor roll and is involved in numerous activities in and out of school, including 4-h, fine arts and athletics. she has also worked as an intern for the mississippi valley regional blood center. we'll round out our finalists with mitchell mccauley, a sophomore at center point urbana. mitchell is natural leader and at the top of his class in school. in addition to his involvement in athletics and local non-profits, he participates in f-c-a - fellowship of christian athletes. you can vote now for our student of the month. head to kcrg dot com slash student of the month to find the ballot and more information

buildings. police think these phrases popped up sometime between february 20th and 21st. two downtown businesses were also affected, "d and d body shop" and hills bank. the police chief thinks they're all connected and security footage suggests multiple vandals. police say they don't have any suspects, but do have some leads. if you have any information you can call linn county crime stoppers. the highland community school district in riverside is preparing to cut its budget by $500,000. the superintenden t blames the projected

and not enough state funding. he says pretty much everything is on the table for possible cuts. that includes possibly closing an elementary school and cutting teachers and administrator s. final budget decisions should come next month. we have an update to a story we reported earlier this year the f-d-a is demanding new safety trials and warning labels for a permanent form of birth control called essure. it's a coil that a doctor implants into a woman's fallopian tubes. the f-d-a took action after receiving complaints from women who say they suffered serious complications from the device. side effects include severe pain, bleeding, and hair loss. the company that owns the device, bayer, says it plans to work with the f-d-a to ensure the safe use of the product. it may not feel like spring today, but a dubuque county commercial syrup producer says spring has come early. brian wolf and his family run big timber syrup near bankston. wolf says the recent warmer daily temperatures, combined with freezing

trees are rapidly producing syrup. even this morning's snow is helpful in the process. "we're about three weeks ahead of schedule actually. the weather has changed so fast and we had to hurry it up a little bit because we weren't expecting this. " big timber has already produced 200 gallons of maple syrup this season. wolf says, last year, they didn't even start the production process until march 10th. now here's our morning mugshot on your tuesday. it's the systems unlimited gala and silent auction. systems unlimited provides services for individuals with disabilities and mental health challenges in eastern iowa. the gala will be march 4th at the celebration farm in iowa city. there will be dueling pianos, a dessert auction and a silent auction with some spectacular items. tickets are 35 dollars in advance and 40 at the door. for more information about the event, head to s-u-i dot org. kaj will be back right after the break with a final look at your forecast.
